Hi! We know we let ourselves fall off the map but we’re back and ready for a great semester. Get excited!
News and Updates:
Our library is now in Olin! They are separate from the main collection so contact Stephanie Atkins if you want access to the books. We’re adding more books, especially some more LGBTQIA/GSRM (whatever acronym you prefer) friendly novels related to kink and, hopefully, some requested erotica. If there is something you would like to see us add in the future please shoot us an email. We’d love to hear from you.
We have events coming up!
Come join us February 24th from 7:30-9:00pm in DUC 240 for pizza and drinks! This is a great opportunity to meet other members of the club and get involved in future ALA planning.
- Intro to Kink Roundtable Discussion:
Come join us March 2nd from 5:00-7:00pm in DUC 239 for a kink related discussion with members of the local kink community.
We’re hoping to have a workshop on Formal and Informal Negotiation on March 24th and we’ll also be involved in Sex Week (March 31- April 4).
Also, we’ll be trying to make our blog more interactive so we’ll be posting random Alternative Lifestyle related news, kink related fan-fiction and creative fiction found online, as well as book reviews of current kink related novels, etc.
Please feel free to send us links to anything you think would be a good addition to our blog and please feel free to reach out, ask us questions, send us event ideas and suggestions, or just say hi. We’re primarily a resource group so please let us know how we can make ourselves more accessible. We love to hear from all of you!
The ALA library is being moved to Olin Library!
We are really excited about this opportunity to make these resources available to the WashU community!
While we are transferring the books they will be unavailable but an announcement will be made as soon as the move is complete.
Leather History and Protocol (Interactive Discussion)
Time: 10AM-11AM and 11:30-12:30
Where did all the symbolism behind leather vests, caps and boots come from? How have they become part of a culture with military-strict protocol? Come find out the history, purpose, and modern practice of leather culture from a St. Louis local.
Shibari Rope Bondage Basics (Demo and Workshop)
Time: 1pm-2:30pm and 2:30pm-4pm
Learn how to restrain yourself or a partner with simple, safe, and secure tires from a local rope bondage guru. The first fifteen attendees can keep the rope.
Power Exchange and Play (Interactive Discussion)

For those new to BDSM and power exchange, how can we transfer authority to or from someone else to enhance an enjoyable experience.
Exploring Your Sexuality
Come talk with local experts and a Chicago-based professional dominatrix about how to improve your body image and explore your sexuality in a safe and fun way.
*We will try to post locations as soon as possible! We hope to see a lot of you there!
That’s right – Sexual Responsibility Week takes Wash U by storm starting Monday, February 4. Check out our calendar for information about all the events. Also useful are the Sex Week 2013 Facebook page and the Sex Week 2013: Kink Day Facebook page. Be sure to check out these events put on by the ALA:

Trans* Awareness Week!
Instead of a workshop this week, we’re going to support Pride Alliance’s event Trans* Awareness Week. We will be going to the Transgender Safe Space Training on Thursday at 6 PM in Umrath 140, but please go to whatever events work in your schedule! See the Facebook page for full details of each of the events!
Great news! Leadershape is back at WashU! This is an AWESOME program and I strongly encourage everyone to sign up if you haven’t already! If you are a current ALA member and would like a recommendation, send an email to the group mailing list and I (Diana) will gladly recommend you!
Good news! The Impact Play workshop that fell off the calendar during midterm season is back on! It will be held at our usual time, 5-7 PM Thursday, Nov. 1 (location TBA). Check back here for updates!
Impact play includes spanking, flogging, paddles, whips, and a lot more – especially if one is creative.
This workshop will also emphasize how to be safe when practicing impact. It’s kind of really important.
The Wax Play workshop scheduled for Thursday, October 11 5-7 PM will be held in Siegle L003 instead of in the DUC. Sorry for the confusion and inconvenience.
Thanks to those who’ve been anxiously checking WashUAltLife for signs of life this semester – we’re finally showing some! The important upcoming dates, which will also be posted in the calendar, are these:
Wednesday, Sept. 5, 4:30-6p: Activities Fair in the Brookings Quad
Thursday, Sept. 6, 5-7p: Rope Bondage Workshop, led by guest presenter T0ne in the DUC, room TBA
The first rope bondage workshop will be very introductory, and there may be a follow up workhshop to explore Shibari rope bondage in more depth if there is interest.
We hope to see you around!
Hi all! I’m pleased to report that we’ve now added the Shameless Grounds calendar to our Events! page, so you can check in what delightfully fun events they’re planning at the same time you’re checking to see what we’re up to! We highly encourage you to attend any and all events that look interesting to you – Shameless Grounds is a fabulous and professional establishment with a strong passion for safe, sane, and consensual education about kink…and they have great food! If you would like to attend any of their events but either need a ride or want someone to go with, just drop us a line, and we’ll be happy to show you around.
